Global-PPS updates real-time feedback reports

Over the past few months, the Global-PPS team has been busy updating the real-time feedback report. They now provide a new presentation of the prevalence’s for the different antibiotic subgroups, insights into healthcare-associated infections and use of invasive devices; and the novel WHO AWaRe classification.

Since the first worldwide roll-out of the Global-PPS surveillance tool in 2015, our aim was to provide our participants with real-time feedback reports. Global-PPS has an automated feedback function in the software that processes the PPS data and generates a series of graphs and tables. As such, hospitals get their report in real-time (immediately after data entry and validation) without the need to invest time and resources in data analysis. These reports help local antimicrobial stewardship teams to interpret, communicate, and discuss findings for their hospital

Currently, we provide one-point, merged and longitudinal feedback reports. They give insights into:

  • prevalence’s for the different antibiotic subgroups;
  • different ward types and indications;
  • several antibiotic quality indicators;
  • healthcare-associated infections and use of invasive devices;
  • resistance for the most common micro-organisms;
  • the novel WHO AWaRE classification.

Hospital-specific PPS results are plotted against mean national and continental results (benchmarking).

Any hospital worldwide is welcome to participate. Bigger hospitals who have participated at least once in the Global-PPS are able to participate with a subsample of the hospital, whereby a set of certain ward types can be targeted (e.g. all ICUs, all surgical or all paediatric wards). They will be able to download a longitudinal feedback report showing results for all surveys they have completed.

We are continuously trying to improve these reports, taking into account comments and wishes from our participants. You can download the latest available example of a one-point feedback report on our website
