uso de antimicrobianos en hospitales humanos y en entornos ambulatorios. Sin embargo, un estudio reciente ilustra c\u00f3mo esta herramienta puede adaptarse para su uso tambi\u00e9n en hospitales equinos. Esto es de gran valor para estudiar el creciente problema de la resistencia a los antimicrobianos en medicina veterinaria.<\/p><p>Los investigadores recopilaron espec\u00edficamente informaci\u00f3n sobre el uso de antibi\u00f3ticos en ocho hospitales equinos de seis pa\u00edses. Utilizando el Global-PPS, estudiaron factores como las dosis y la duraci\u00f3n del tratamiento, pero tambi\u00e9n obtuvieron informaci\u00f3n sobre las razones y la calidad de las prescripciones de antibi\u00f3ticos.<\/p><p>Las encuestas revelaron que el 40,1 % de todos los caballos recib\u00edan antibi\u00f3ticos. Casi la mitad de las prescripciones eran profil\u00e1cticas. Tanto las prescripciones profil\u00e1cticas como las emp\u00edricas inclu\u00edan tipos de antibi\u00f3ticos que, seg\u00fan la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos, deber\u00edan evitarse o restringirse a un uso espec\u00edfico. \u00a0Los investigadores tambi\u00e9n evaluaron si se realizaban cultivos bacterianos (tomados para identificar el tipo de infecci\u00f3n) antes del tratamiento y si se registraba en el historial del paciente una fecha para interrumpir o revisar dichos tratamientos.<\/p><p>Dicha informaci\u00f3n ayuda a identificar \u00e1reas de mejora en las pr\u00e1cticas de prescripci\u00f3n, como las altas tasas de uso de antibi\u00f3ticos profil\u00e1cticos. De esta manera, el Global-PPS act\u00faa como una herramienta pr\u00e1ctica para ayudar a las cl\u00ednicas a monitorear y refinar su enfoque a lo largo del tiempo.<\/p><p>La aplicaci\u00f3n del Global-PPS a la medicina veterinaria pone en pr\u00e1ctica la estrategia \"One Health\" (el concepto de que la salud humana, la salud animal y la salud ambiental est\u00e1n interconectadas) mediante el intercambio de conocimientos entre los sectores de la salud humana y la salud veterinaria.
