Compromisos mundiales para la acción local: Asamblea General de la ONU y Reunión Ministerial de Jeddah sobre la RAM

La lucha mundial contra la resistencia a los antimicrobianos (RAM) ocupó un lugar central el 26 de septiembre de 2024, en la Reunión de Alto Nivel de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas sobre la RAM (Sede de la ONU, Nueva York, EE.UU.). Esta pandemia silenciosa reunió por segunda vez a los líderes mundiales para hacer frente a la RAM y estableció una hoja de ruta de compromisos políticos.

Following this event, the 4th Global High-Level Ministerial Meeting on AMR convened in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia, from 14 – 16 November, shifting the focus from commitment to action.

At the UN General Assembly, participants made powerful political commitments to curb the rise of AMR. Key goals set included reducing AMR-related human deaths by 10% by 2030 and ensuring that at least 60% of nations have funded AMR national action plans by the same year. Leaders underscored the importance of a “One Health” approach, which connects the dots between human, animal, and environmental health to combat AMR effectively.

The subsequent meeting in Jeddah aimed to turn these commitments into action. Under the theme “From Declaration to Implementation – Accelerating Actions Through Multisectoral Partnerships for the Containment of AMR,” this gathering focused on mobilizing resources and partnerships across sectors. Leaders discussed implementation strategies and best practices to drive collective progress in human and animal health, agriculture, and environmental protection.

Driving these initiatives is the Quadripartite, signed between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). These organizations lead the AMR Multistakeholder Partnership Platform, fostering collaboration and aligning efforts across the One Health spectrum.
